London Revival of The Children’s Hour, Starring Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss, Extends Before Previews Begin

The upcoming West End production of Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour starring Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean) and Elisabeth Moss (TV's Mad Men) has been extended through April 30 at London’s Comedy Theatre. The show, which will begin performances on January 22 ahead of a February 9 opening, was originally scheduled to close on April 2.

In addition to Knightley and Moss, the London revival of The Children's Hour features Ellen Burstyn, Carol Kane, Bryony Hannah and Tobias Menzies, along with Nancy Crane, Amy Dawson, Eve Ponsonby, Lisa Backwell, Isabella Brazier-Jones, Poppy Carter, Marama Corlett, Isabel Ellison, and Nathan Nolan. Ian Rickson directs.

First produced on Broadway in 1934, The Children's Hour takes place in an all-girls boarding school. When a troubled teenager starts to spin a web of deceit, all around her are soon caught up in it. Karen Wright (Knightley) and Martha Dobie (Moss) have worked for years to establish their school, and now, with the school flourishing and Karen on the verge of marriage, their lives and loves finally appear secure. However, when malicious student Mary runs away from the school and seeks to avoid being sent back, she draws on hearsay, gossip and her own imagination to concoct a story that threatens the school, the marriage, and their entire futures.
