Rosamund Pike: 'I was amazed that Rowan Atkinson even knew who I was' (via The Guardian)

It feels strange to say that Johnny English Reborn is something of a revelation. It isn't the film itself – a tepid spy spoof sequel starring Rowan Atkinson and Dominic West, with the occasional blast of amusement and much slapstick. The unexpected element here comes in the form of Rosamund Pike, playing a top MI7 psychologist named Kate Sumner.
Pike provides both comic foil and love interest for Atkinson – all wide eyes, earnest expressions and fitted shift dresses. But her presence is never less than amusing; it's there in the tilt of her neck, the set of her shoulders, and, more than anywhere, in her face – the faint creases around the eyes and the corner of the mouth breathe humour into that famously crisp beauty. The result is quietly intriguing: perhaps Pike isn't quite who you thought she was. Read full  RP Interview here!

Rosamund Pike: women should be more ambitious (via The Telegraph)
She has acquired a reputation as a demure English rose, but actress Rosamund Pike has called on women to toughen up and flaunt their ambition.

“As a woman, you feel that you shouldn’t want to better yourself against others. Ambition has become such an ugly word, hasn’t it?” she said.
“But when you look up the definition, ambition is to achieve distinction in your chosen field and most of us would own up to that, wouldn’t we?

“So I’ve just decided to be a little bit less frightened and a bit less, ‘Please like me and please give me a job’, and a bit more, ‘This is my opinion and this is what I want to do.’”

The 32-year-old actress landed her breakthrough role as a Bond girl in the 2002 film Die Another Day. She went on to win plaudits for her performances in Pride and Prejudice and An Education.

In 2007, Pike became engaged to Joe Wright, who directed her in Pride and Prejudice. But Wright jilted her a month before their 2008 wedding, a humiliation for the actress who had already sent out save-the-date cards.

They have not crossed paths since but Pike told InStyle magazine that she has moved on. Read more here!

Casting News: Rosamund Pike confirmed to play Andromeda in 'Clash of the Titans 2' film

Posted by Le on Wednesday, March 23, 2011

As previously posted here early last month, Rosamund Pike was in talks to play Andromeda in 'Wrath Of The Titans'. Now, Variety reports that Warner Bros. has just released a press release (with detailed plot/synopsis revealed via Coming Soon) that Rosamund Pike is officially confirmed in the cast of the sequel to Clash of the Titans (no official title as of yet for the sequel, 'Wrath of the Titans was a rumored title for now...) film with returning cast Sam Worthington as Perseus, Danny Huston as Poseidon, Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Liam Neeson as Zeus. One cast member (from the original cast) not returning in the sequel is Gemma Arterton (who is currently filming “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”), who played Io in the first film was not listed in the cast list of the press release.

Rosamund is playing Queen Andromeda, replacing Alexa Davalos, who played the Greek character in last year's "Clash of the Titans."  Joining RP in the new cast additions for Clash of the Titans 2 are: Bill Nighly as Hephaestus, Toby Kebbell Argenor, and Edgar Ramirez as Ares.

Also, principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' epic action adventure sequel to “Clash of the Titans,” being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (“Battle: Los Angeles”).

Here are the article via Variety and a full press release (including a detailed synopsis) via Coming Soon:

'Titans' sequel adds to cast
Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell join pic

LONDON -- Brit thesps Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy and Toby Kebbell have been confirmed to join the cast of Warner Bros.' "Clash of the Titans" sequel.

Pike is playing Queen Andromeda, replacing Alexa Davalos, who played the Greek character in last year's "Clash of the Titans." Variety reported that Pike was in talks for the part Feb. 8.

Kebbell, meanwhile, is set to play Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor, while Nighy will play the fallen god Hephaestus.

The sequel, which is being helmed by "Battle: Los Angeles" director Jonathan Liebesman, will see Sam Worthington reprise his role as Perseus alongside Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Liam Neeson as Zeus. Edgar Ramirez and Danny Huston also topline the pic.

Dan Mazeau, David Leslie Johnson and Steven Knight penned the script while Basil Iwanyk and Polly Cohen Johnsen produce.

Lensing is taking place at Shepperton Studios and on location in Surrey, South Wales and on the Spanish island of Tenerife.

Production Underway for Clash of the Titans 2

Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' epic action adventure sequel to "Clash of the Titans," being directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles"). Returning to star in the film are Sam Worthington ("Avatar") as Perseus, and Academy Award® nominees Ralph Fiennes ("The English Patient," the "Harry Potter" films) as Hades and Liam Neeson ("Schindler's List," "Unknown") as Zeus.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Jonathan Liebesman directs the film from a screenplay by Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson and Steven Knight, story Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau, based on the 2010 hit "Clash of the Titans" and the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross.

The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk ("The Town"), who also produced the previous "Clash of the Titans," and Polly Cohen Johnsen ("Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore"). The executive producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, William Fay, Callum McDougall, Kevin De La Noy and Louis Leterrier.

Joining Worthington, Fiennes and Neeson in the international cast are Danny Huston ("Robin Hood"), reprising his role as Poseidon, god of the sea; Edgar Ramírez ("The Bourne Ultimatum," TV miniseries "Carlos") as the traitorous god of war, Ares; Bill Nighy ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1") as Hephaestus, whose twisted, lame figure belies his Olympian origins; Toby Kebbell ("Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time") as Agenor, imprisoned thief and son of Poseidon who joins Perseus on his journey to Tartarus; and Rosamund Pike ("Barney's Version") as Andromeda, the princess whose life Perseus once saved, and who now, as a queen, follows Perseus into battle.

The behind-the-scenes team bringing this mythical epic to life includes director of photography Ben Davis ("The Rite," "Kick Ass"); production designer Charles Wood ("The Italian Job," "The A-Team"); Academy Award®-winning editor Martin Walsh ("Chicago," "V for Vendetta"); and costume designer Jany Temime (the "Harry Potter" films). "Clash of the Titans 2" also reunites several talents from the previous film, including Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis ("The Dark Knight,"); Oscar®-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O'Sullivan ("The Dark Knight," "Saving Private Ryan"); and Academy Award®-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould ("Gladiator"). Also on board are Oscar®-nominated makeup designer Paul Engelen ("Frankenstein," "Robin Hood") and hair designer Kevin Alexander ("Robin Hood," "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian").

"Clash of the Titans 2" will be filming in studios outside London and will later shoot on location in Surrey, South Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife. The film is currently scheduled for release in March 2012.
A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Thunder Road Film, "Clash of the Titans 2" is being co-produced by Furia de Titanes II, A.I.E. and COTT Productions and will be distributed in 3D and 2D worldwide by Warner Bros. Entertainment Companies.

Casting News: Rosamund Pike in talks to play Andromeda in 'Wrath Of The Titans'

Posted by Le on Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Deadline reports that Rosamund Pike (Photo by Ian Gavan/Getty Images Europe) is currently in talks and close to finalizing a deal to play Andromeda in the Jonathan Liebesman directed film "Wrath of the Titans" (and is said to be shot in 3D, according to Variety), taking over for Alexa Davalos who played the part in Louis Leterrier‘s “Clash Of The Titans.” If Miss Pike is officially cast as Andromeda, she joins the rest of an interesting cast that currently include Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes.
Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures is near a deal with Barney's Version star Rosamund Pike to play the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel. Pike has been on the radar since the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day and has done a succession of indie films. Pike had been mentioned in speculative stories about who might get the lead in Zack Snyder-directed Superman films opposite Henry Cavill. Scratch her off the list, she'll be busy in this Warner Bros film instead, which stars Sam Worthington and will be directed by Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman.  Andromeda (played by Alexa Davalos in the original, who was unavailable for the sequel) is a major role and had the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow mentioned as possibles. She's repped by UTA, Magnolia and United Agents.
Production is underway and should start soon as it's scheduled for a March 30, 2012 release date!

Also, according to The Playlist, Last month, it was reported that a number of actresses were screen-testing for the love interest role of Andromeda in the “Clash Of The Titans” sequel. Among the contenders listed at the time were “Captain America” star Hayley Atwell, Clemence Poesy (”In Bruges”), Janet Montgomery (”Black Swan”), Georgina Haig (”Wasted on the Young”) and Dominique McElligott (”Moon”) but a name recently linked as a candidate for a role in Zack Snyder‘s “Superman” has landed the gig instead.

So, it appears that RP didn't get the role in the new Superman movie as I previously posted here last Friday that Rosamund Pike was in the shortlist for a female lead role in new 'Superman' film. But then, there was this UK's The Telegraph article:

Rosamund Pike: 'Girly men freeze women out of Hollywood'

Rosamund Pike, the former Bond girl, complains that she was recently turned down for a leading role because she was not flirtatious enough.

“I auditioned for a job recently, and didn’t get it,” says the actress, speaking at the launch of the Birds Eye View Film Festival. “Word came back that they were looking for 'a flirty piece of ass’.

“Now, I do not want, and have never wanted, to be a flirty piece of ass, but when told I was not one, I found myself quite offended. I was thrust right back on the most primeval battlefield, the loser at the mating game.

“The point that sex appeal is not the level at which I want to compete was lost on me, momentarily.”
Now, I wonder which of these two films (both with female lead parts) she was talking about from that above article...guess, we'll eventually find out soon when this one is officially confirmed and the rest of the Superman casting is officially announced as well.
