Carey Mulligan to received a Palm Springs International Film Festival Award

Posted by Le on Thursday, October 21, 2010

According to MyDesert.com, Carey Mulligan (Photo by Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images Europe) will be honored at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival with a Breakthrough Performance Award for 'Never Let Me Go' and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."
On Jan. 8, Mulligan will be recognized for her rising star qualities when the Palm Springs International Film Festival presents her with its Breakthrough Performance Award at its black-tie awards gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Carey Mulligan is an actress of extraordinary talent and versatility,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. “In her most recent performances as the estranged daughter of Gordon Gekko in ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' to ‘Never Let Me Go,' where her character learns that life isn't always what it seems, she brings uncommon vision and depth to her art.”

Mulligan first came to Macdonald's attention in “Pride and Prejudice” in 2005. She also had roles in “Public Enemies” with Johnny Depp and “Brothers” with Tobey Maguire in 2009.

Past recipients of the Breakthrough Performance Award include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson, Felicity Huffman and Freida Pinto.

Last year's recipients were Jeremy Renner and Mariah Carey, who became the evening's most celebrated award winner thanks to her odd acceptance speech.

The Palm Springs Film Festival runs Jan. 6-17. It's one of North America's largest film festivals with more than 130,000 filmgoers expected.

Carey Mulligan is on the cover of Vogue Magazine's October issue and here's the gorgeous cover (see to your left), which will be available on magazine stands, September 14th.

Speaking of Carey, I thought I missed her on Jay Leno's The Tonight Show last night (<-- click the link and see Carey in today's schedule), but apparently, it was tonight, her guest appearance and not last night as I thought it would be, lol. She'll be promoting her two new films, Never Let Me go (with former P&P co-star/friend Keira Knightley) opening in theaters next Wednesday, September 15th (limited), and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps  (with boyfriend/co-star Shia LaBeauf and Michael Douglas) hits theaters September 24th. Here are a list of P&P '05 alumni with a new movie starting this Fall through Winter of 2010.
