Frequent co-stars of P&P (2005) Actors

Posted by Le on Thursday, August 25, 2011

What do all of these familiar faces and famous Hollywood/International/A-list actors all have in common? Well, other than them being rich, famous, and talented actors, of course. They all have co-starred with our favorite P&P (2005) actors in some of their TV/films and stage play projects either more than once (and or with more than a few P&P actors) or multiple times with the same or different P&P actor(s). If you've seen the following movies (some I've recommended here for you to check out and watch!) they've done with our P&P actors either they were co-starring, appearing with a small (but still important roles) and or making a cameo appearances...then, you probably noticed (or perhaps not until now) that they were all in those movies (whether they were made for Television or Feature films) and stage plays frequently co-starring with P&P 05 actors. I thought I'd compiled and list them here as I've been noticing them in all these movies I've seen and it's very interesting that all have co-starred with them not just once, but twice or even a few times or more with some of our favorite P&P actors listed here...kind of like a six degrees of P&P 05 actors game, where each of these famous actors have a connection with just about everyone of them.

Check out below the familiar names and faces (images included) with a list of films they co-starred/appeared more than once with our P&P (2005) actors...

P&P Cast filming Pride & Prejudice film this summer 7 years ago

Posted by Le on Thursday, August 11, 2011

I posted here a year ago about the Principal photography for Pride & Prejudice film started this month six years ago. I thought I'd post here about it (again) this year with more cast interviews, on set, and behind the scenes info and images as it's been 7 years this month since they filmed the movie and shot entirely on location in the beautiful English countryside. I've been very fortunate to have visited at least two of those wonderful filming locations in Derbyshire (see some of my Photos: Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall as Pride & Prejudice's Pemberley and Inn at Lambton (P&P/Derbyshire filming locations)) almost a year ago (September 2010) when I went on My first European trip.

Anyway, the 4-time Academy Award (as well as 2-time Golden Globe and 6-time BAFTA) nominated 2005 film, Pride & Prejudice starring Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen began filming seven years ago last month (July 19th) and during this month (see P&P timeline below). The film was directed by Joe Wright and shot entirely on location in the UK, including Derbyshire, Wiltshire, Lincolnshire, and Kent. The P&P cast and crew spent their most fun and "happiest" summer (3 months!) filming the movie from July through October 2004.

In retrospect, for the nostalgia of this amazing film, here's another new compilation of various cast interviews (including director Joe Wright, which were not posted here last year. Mostly, a lot of them you've probably read/heard from the P&P DVD extras and P&P Diaries documentary) and what the cast said their experiences were like filming P&P movie and bonding with each other.

From P&P '05 Diaries (as well as from the P&P DVD's Bonus Exras: Conversations with the Cast and A Bennet Family Portrait featurettes) here are a compilation of what Joe Wright and some of his P&P cast said as they were discussing their favorite moments from the film's production (as well as a video, which you can watch here: P&P Diaries Special Moments via Focus Features) or below...

(source: Focus Features)

"It was lovely. What a joy of job. Three months skipping around the English countryside with loads of girls. It was heaven." (Joe Wright)

"Love Ros, Love Carey and Jena, and Talulah. And it's been lovely kinda having this very girly family. But then, you've got Brenda and Donald in the middle of it." (Keira Knightley)

"Glorious. Donald and Brenda and all of the girls. What a lovely family." (Matthew Macfadyen)
"Brenda, I love with an absolute passion. I think she's wonderful and Donald is very funny and always have a good stories to tell." (Talulah Riley)

"Really fun, 'cause I'm an only child, so I don't know what it's like to have that particular rivalry you have with a sister or that particular love or whatever and with this it feels like it has come alive." (Rosamund Pike)

"Donald's struggling with the great big pig. So, I've ushered in the pigs into the alley. It was heaven." (Brenda Blethyn)

"Well, I have to tell you. It was lovely to be here." (Donald Sutherland)

"You have no idea, you know, when you come into a picture what KeiraKnightley is going to be like. And it turns out she is as extraordinaryan actor as I've ever met in my life. Rosamund was...it's indescribablehow ethereally beautiful she was. Talulah was...Oh, I just embracedher. Carey...They were like children, you know. And Jena was...she justbecame this silly child. They were wonderful. It was just a wonderfulfamily, you know. Headed and embraced and supported and catalyzed byBrenda Blethyn." (Donald Sutherland)
"I feel like I've been so welcome here. Like, It's just been so nice." (Jena Malone)

"So, I don't know. I don't think I could pick my favorite person to work with as they're all so amazing. And I know everyone always says that, but you do go, 'No, this is such a special group of people.'" (Keira Knightley)
"Obviously, we've got people like Judi Dench and Donald Sutherland and Brenda Blethyn, and you work with these guys, and you just go...'the experience,' and the way they handled themselves...and you know, that's amazing." (Keira Knightley)

"Normally, before I'm in the scene I'm in the corner and I'm kinda going..." (Simon Woods)
"And I love it when we're a family unit rather than...I mean, we've been sort of split up in various things...but when we are presented as the Bennets. And that scene when we go to Netherfield...And it's a Miss Bennet, a Miss Bennet, a Miss Bennet, and a Mrs. Bennet. And it's like we're all together." (Carey Mulligan)
"Carey and I have been really good friends, because, obviously we're both new to this. So, it's been good to have somebody that doesn't know what's going on as well." (Talulah Riley)

"The most incredible thing has been seeing people like Carey Mulligan and Talulah Riley and whose first job this is and how they've taken it like ducks to water, you know, and how excited they've been."
(Keira Knightley)

"We've become such friends, all of us, for real." (Brenda Blethyn)

"We were all very, very nice to each other at the beginning and suddenly, you know, we've started to sort of have real dynamics as well as sort of the character dynamics." (Rosamund Pike)

"Judi Dench, I adored watching. I was sitting there at that dinner table in Rosings and think, this is great." (Matthew Macfadyen)

"Some of the highlights are the things I wasn't even in and just standing and watching the others and seeing how beautiful it's looking." (Brenda Blethyn)
"I really enjoyed all the dancing stuff with Matthew. It was really odd. I thought I was going to completely hate it. And then you kind of accept that you're gonna be there all day and it's gonna be difficult and it's gonna be really, really lovely. So, I enjoyed that a lot." (Keira Knightley)

"I've just had a wonderful summer with this family. The little family of the Bennets and the bigger family of the whole crew." (Rosamund Pike)

"I've loved every minute of this film." (Brenda Blethyn)

Also, from HBO's First Look: Pride & Prejudice:

"On the last day of rehearsals, I took the whole of theBennet family to the house. They had to claim that house as their own.It was their space and the crew were guests. And we had a lovely timeas well." (Joe Wright)

"Joe brought us all down on a day when everything wasimmaculate. There was no equipment. Everything was dressed. It reallyis...It was enchanting. Really enchanting." (Rosamund Pike)
"We played sardines. We were there all day hiding and discovering the house." (Brenda Blethyn)

"We were allowed to do exactly what we wanted...and shout and screamand anything. It just worked. We just gelled completely in a way thatnone of us could have imagined." (Keira Knightley)

From Keira Knightley's P&P Promotional Video Interview...

Did you enjoy working on location in the British countryside?
"Yeah, definitely. I mean, I really enjoyed traveling. You have to, being in my profession, really. The opportunity of doing a film in Britain was definitely a huge bonus. And actually partly, because I really don't know the British countryside. It's weird, I'm born and bred Londoner. I know of Devon and Cornwall. But I don't know really, I didn't know Derbyshire. I've never been to Derbyshire before. I've never really been to Kent before. You know, and it's just really great opportunity to actually see my country for a change as opposed to seeing other people's, you know. So, it was a fantastic, It was a fantastic a summer. And I'm so glad to have seen all these really beautiful places." (Keira Knightley)

 [source: KelsiKnightley]

Did you bond with the other Bennet sisters?
"Oh, yeah. No, Totally. I mean, this is the first time for me that I've worked with girls with my own age. You know, there were three of us who were 19 (Keira, Carey, and Jena) when we did it, one was 18 (Talulah) and Ros (Rosamund), you know is a tiny bit older. But we're all pretty much the same age. And it was just lovely for me to to work with people of my own age who share the same interest 'cause I've never had that before. So, yeah, I'm still friendly with a lot of people who worked on Pride & Prejudice. I'd actually count a lot of them as among my closest friends and it was a really special, special experience. Definitely, 'cause that rarely happens on a film set where everybody just loved each other and you can really see that on the film as well." (Keira Knightley)

Posted by Le on Thursday, August 4, 2011

ITV has renewed the detective drama series Vera starring Brenda Blethyn as DCI Vera Stanhope and David Leon as DS Joe Ashworth for a second season.

Brenda Blethyn will reprise her role as Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope.

Vera
International award-winning actress Brenda Blethyn OBE stars in Vera, a new detective drama series adapted from the Vera Stanhope novels by revered novelist Ann Cleeves.

Inspector Stanhope is obsessive about her work and driven by her own demons. If she’s lonely she doesn’t show it and faces the world with caustic wit, guile and courage. Here's an article about Vera's second season renewal with more info (via The List):

Vera recommissioned for second series
Filming for four stand-alone episodes of the detective drama has already commenced, with BAFTA-winning actress Brenda Blethyn set to reprise her role as Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope in the show, which is based on the works of crime author Ann Cleeves.

The programme - which is set in Northumberland and Newcastle - averaged 6.6 million viewers with a peak episode of 6.8 million during its first series.

All four 120-minute episodes - which will be directed by Peter Hoar, Julian Holmes and Paul Whittington - will document the mysterious goings on in mostly rural areas of the north-eastern county, with the final production 'Silent Voices' based on Ann's latest novel.

The show is one of four dramas being recomissioned by ITV, alongside 'Scott and Bailey', 'Monroe' and 'Case Sensitive'.

Laura Mackie, Director of Drama Commissioning at ITV Drama, said: "We couldn't be more delighted with the success of 'Vera', 'Case Sensitive', 'Monroe and Scott & Bailey'. It's terrific to think we are commissioning the most watched and appreciated original dramas for the ITV1 audience."

Brenda previously revealed she perfected her Geordie accent for 'Vera' by studying former 'X Factor' judge Cheryl Cole.

Happy Birthday Brenda Blethyn!

Posted by Le on Sunday, February 20, 2011

Today is the 65th birthday of two-time Academy Award Award Nominee Brenda Blethyn, best known to us P&P fans as Mrs. Bennet, the Bennet girls' mother in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice film as well as Grace Turner, Robbie's mother in Atonement.

After twenty years of hard work on stage and both television and films, there are not many other actresses who deserved the success, recognition and stardom which Brenda Blethyn has now achieved.

Born in (February 20th) 1946 in Ramsgate in Kent, England, she started her career at British Rail in the 1960s. Saving money during her time there, she took a risk and enrolled herself at the at The Guildford School of Acting in Guildford, Surrey, England and then left her British Rail years behind. Her risk had paid off, by the mid-1970s she was working on stage, eventually joining the National Theatre Company in 1975. (Read more of her Bio on IMDB!)

Brenda Blethyn as Mrs. Bennet
in Pride & Prejudice
“When I told people I was playing this part they’d say ‘oh she’s a wonderful cartoon character, you’ll have great fun’.
I said ‘excuse me, no she’s not. She’s got a problem to be dealt with and it seems to me that she’s the only one taking the problem seriously’. The father isn’t, the daughters don’t seem terribly concerned, and I would say that it’s okay for the father because he’s got a roof over his head all the time he’s alive, it’s when he goes that the problem sets in. She mentions that in one of the scenes.” (Brenda Blethyn)
“It’s a tricky part, as she can be very annoying; you want to stop her chattering and shrieking. But Brenda has the humour and the heart to show the amount of love and care Mrs. Bennet has for her daughters”. (Joe Wright)

"We were like one big family. We took over the house. It was so much fun. Brenda Blethyn (Mrs Bennett) mummied us all - when we had days off she took us on day trips to a llama farm." (Carey Mulligan)
I´ve loved every minute of this film. We´ve become such friends. All of us. It´s been so happy, kind of idyllic, in that house, and the friendships and the camaraderie, it´s just heaven, and I don´t want it to end, to be honest”. (Brenda Blethyn)
Here's BB's upcoming TV & Film Projects for 2011 (via IMDB):
1. Vera (TV series) (completed) (2011) Vera Stanhope
2. My Angel (post-production) (2011) Headmistress

Must-See Films for 2011 for P&P Actors

Posted by Le on Monday, January 10, 2011

The following P&P '05 actors has new films to be released starting this Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall (from January to December) of 2011.

Where are our favorite P&P actors now post P&P movie?

Looks like they are just getting more and more TV and film and stage play projects after another each year. The P&P 2005 cast (see photo above to your left) has to be the most successful (from any or previous actors who had done P&P adaptations saved for Colin Firth, who seems to be the only one from the P&P 1995 cast to be a constant success after he starred as Mr. Darcy in the popular '95 miniseries) with pretty much every actor in the main and supporting ensemble cast doing more movies after P&P movie (even then unknown Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy), Rupert Friend (Mr. Wickham), Kelly Reilly (Caroline Bingley), Tom Hollander (Mr. Collins), Claudie Blakley (Charlotte Lucas), Penelope Wilton (Mrs. Gardiner), and Tamzin Merchant (Georgiana Darcy) all have starred/co-starred/appeared in recent TV movies, TV series/miniseres, stage plays, and films...and each are getting their names mentioned and recognized more these days). The Bennet girls themselves have been rising stars (each one have done more movies after P&P) especially Carey Mulligan (Kitty Bennet), who after her debut in P&P movie, became a big star and Oscar Nominated actress for her breakout film, An Education with her other P&P co-star Rosamund Pike (Jane Bennet), whose a rising star on her own right. Just check each P&P actor's profile and filmmography on P&P 2005's IMDB page and you'll see they've done more TV and film projects that were popular that you may have heard and didn't realized they were on it, unless they were the lead or co-lead stars like Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Carey Mulligan, Rosamund Pike, Jena Malone, and Judi Dench.

Anyway, P&P alumni and main leads Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen (Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy) both have new films this year as well pretty much everyone in the supporting cast or most of their co-stars (the entire Bennet family has at least a two or more new films each even the Darcy siblings, Lady Catherine, and Mr. Collins...) and director Joe Wright!

Keira Knightley has two films (A Dangerous Method and London Boulevard ...though both are still TBD as far as theatrical release dates in the U.S. is concern) to be released this year and Matthew Macfadyen has two films (The Three Musketeer 3D and The Promise Land with another Darcy actor, Colin Firth and a made for TV Miniseries: Any Human Heart with former P&P co-star Tom Hollander, their fourth film together will premiere on PBS' Masterpiece starting February)...while their [former] P&P co-stars such as Rupert Friend (with 3 films such as 5 Days of August, Lullaby, and This Beautiful Fantastic), Carey Mulligan (with 2 films: Drive and Shame), Talulah Riley (has a cameo role in The Dilemma), Rosamund Pike (has one made for TV movie: Women In Love and  5 films such as Barney's Version, The Big Year, Burning Palms, Johnny English Reborn, and The Sea), Donald Sutherland (has 6 films too: The Eagle of the Ninth, The Mechanic, The Steal Artist, Sofia, Man on the Train, and This Side of the Looking Glass), Jena Malone (has 3 films: Sucker Punch, Jack and Diane, The Wait), Tom Hollander (Hanna with director Joe Wright), Judi Dench (Jane Eyre with , POTC: On Stranger Tides, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with , My Night with Marilyn) and Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes 2, Above Suspicion 2: The Red Dahlia) all have TBA new film releases this year.
