Frequent co-stars of P&P (2005) Actors

Posted by Le on Thursday, August 25, 2011

What do all of these familiar faces and famous Hollywood/International/A-list actors all have in common? Well, other than them being rich, famous, and talented actors, of course. They all have co-starred with our favorite P&P (2005) actors in some of their TV/films and stage play projects either more than once (and or with more than a few P&P actors) or multiple times with the same or different P&P actor(s). If you've seen the following movies (some I've recommended here for you to check out and watch!) they've done with our P&P actors either they were co-starring, appearing with a small (but still important roles) and or making a cameo appearances...then, you probably noticed (or perhaps not until now) that they were all in those movies (whether they were made for Television or Feature films) and stage plays frequently co-starring with P&P 05 actors. I thought I'd compiled and list them here as I've been noticing them in all these movies I've seen and it's very interesting that all have co-starred with them not just once, but twice or even a few times or more with some of our favorite P&P actors listed here...kind of like a six degrees of P&P 05 actors game, where each of these famous actors have a connection with just about everyone of them.

Lennon Naked (via PBS' Masterpiece Contemporary website)
Behind the genius, outspokenness, and mischievous antics of the much-loved "smart Beatle," John Lennon (Christopher Eccleston, Doctor Who), is an artist whose struggle with childhood abandonment by his father shapes and nearly undermines his every relationship. Between 1967 and 1971, the tumultuous and wildly creative "studio years" for the Beatles, John Lennon is mired in an unhappy domestic life with his wife, Cynthia (Claudie Blakley, Return to Cranford), and his young son, Julian, the objects of his cruel indifference. Trying to reconcile the sudden death of Beatles manager Brian Epstein and the reintroduction of his long-estranged father, Freddie Lennon (Christopher Fairbank, Tess of the D'Urbervilles), into his life, John sees himself at once as a martyr and a gadfly. Far from being the gentle icon of world peace that he would later become, John embodies his credo that an artist has to destroy as well as create. It's only when he falls in love with avant-garde artist Yoko Ono (Naoko Mori, Torchwood) that John finds the inspiration to enact change in his and Yoko's own unique way, from a cloud of white balloons to the publicity-generating "Bed Peace." Ultimately, their partnership breaks him from the Beatles and Britain itself. Together, they leave country and family behind for New York City, starting over. Lennon Naked also stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock) and Rory Kinnear (Mansfield Park).

Movie Casting News: Judi Dench joins 'My Week with Marilyn' and 'Marigold Hotel'

Posted by Le on Sunday, August 29, 2010

Judi Dench has two new movies she reportedly signed on, My Week with Marilyn and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Collider.com has the following info for both of these new films...
Judi Dench has signed on to star opposite Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh in My Week With Marilyn, one of two Marilyn Monroe biopics in development.  This one takes place on the contentious set of 1957’s The Prince and the Showgirl, in which Monroe (Williams) sought respectability by working with lauded actor/director Laurence Olivier (Branagh); unfortunately Olivier came to loathe the blonde bombshell and treat her like “a naughty schoolgirl.” Dench will play fellow dame Sybil Thorndike, one of the stars of Prince.

According to The Daily Mail, Dench will start shooting her scenes on September 20th, two weeks prior to the primary filming schedule.  The accommodation resulted from Dench’s commitment to James Madden’s adaptation of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Read more here...

Watch Claudie Blakley in "Lark Rise to Candleford" series (Seasons 1-3)

Posted by Le on Saturday, June 26, 2010

Why haven't I seen Lark Rise to Candleford till now? I love period dramas (most of my favorite drama in TV and films are period ones such as P&P, North & South, Wives and Daughters, Little Dorrit, and Love In a Cold Climate to name some) and this is one of those really good period drama/TV serial that I rarely noticed or heard about, but when I do...it surprises me how it was really good. I can't believe I haven't noticed this series till recently. There can be only 3 reasons why I just discovered this series (better late than never, hehe)... a) It wasn't aired here in the U.S. when it premiered...if it was, I would've heard of it. b) It wasn't shown on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre or Masterpiece Mystery!...so that was why I've never heard of this. And c) not only that it was a BBC production, but it also aired on UK's BBC1 channel...you know what that means, I don't live in the UK and we don't have BBC1 channel here in the U.S. (except for BBC America, but they don't air these really good series anymore), so that was why I've never seen this show before... lol.

What's very interesting and unexpected was that this series stars our very own P&P 05's Claudie Blakley (Charlotte Lucas), who plays Emma Timmins and P&P '95's Julia Sawalha (Lydia Bennet), who plays Dorcas Lane (interestingly, she's so much better in this role than she was in P&P 95's Lydia Bennet...at least for me. I like her in this role a lot) for three seasons! Get this, their characters are cousins too! Not too mention, Claudie Blakley (she's very good here....lovin' her character) plays a wife and mother with about 5-6 children! Her eldest daughter Laura Timmins, the lead character and narrator is played by Olivia Hallinan. Also, familiar actors I've seen in North & South, Mansfield Park, and Emma were in this series too. Great casting!!!

The best thing of all, is that I don't have to look or buy the season DVDs (I know I should, but they're expensive and hard to find...lol) 'cause they are available to view for free on YouTube! Yes, you read it right...all episodes from Seasons 1-3 can be viewed on YT! I was only looking for a trailer to include in this post as I write about this here, but I found two YT channels that showed the entire series...and I just started watching Season 1. So far, I'm only on Ep 8 part 1. I have a long way to go to catch up to Season 3, lol...but thank goodness, they are all available to view whenever I want to watch the next episodes (hopefully, YT won't remove them...they better not! I intend to watch them all...) They are pretty good so far, lovin' the Laura/Phillip pairing (thus far...they're so cute and adorable together)...and I'm hooked on watching this series, haha...!  I have the links bookmarked as well as included  here to share with you all who may be interested in watching this...and to easily find the two YT channels to view this series.

But first, check out the synopsis, episode listing, and a few promo/episode stills featuring Claudie Blakley and Julia Sawalha below...

A Pocket Full of Rye
A killer who seems obsessed with a nursery rhyme commits a string of murders. Miss Marple and a local detective (Matthew Macfadyen) join forces to investigate.
A new face takes on the role of Agatha Christie's familiar spinster sleuth in series IV of Miss Marple. Julia McKenzie, best known to Masterpiece audiences for her portrayal of Mrs. Forrester in the acclaimed series Cranford, brings her distinctive style to the role. "I think Julia is a very different character than the other actresses who played Miss Marple recently, and more different than people who played her a long time ago," says Christie's grandson Mathew Prichard. "...I think audiences will love her." A killer cast joins in to celebrate McKenzie's inaugural season, including Matthew Macfadyen (Little Dorrit), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Last Enemy), Rupert Graves (The Forsyte Saga), Russell Tovey (Little Dorrit) and Joan Collins.
Besides Matthew, three of his P&P co-stars also appeared in the Miss Marple series on PBS' Masterpiece Mystery! previous series (in both Series II: The Sittaford Mystery, which Carey Mulligan (Kitty Bennet) appeared on as Violet. It aired back on PBS, July 23rd, 2006. The other was The Moving Finger with Talulah Riley (Mary Bennet) as Megan and one of the new episodes of the new Series V: The Blue Geranium with Claudie Blakley (Charlotte Lucas) as Phillippa Pritchard.
