Carey Mulligan changes gear in Drive (via BBC)
Nicolas Winding Refn'snew film Drive has brutal killings, nerve-jangling car chases andbone-breaking violence. So why did fresh-faced Carey Mulligan beg forpart in it?
"I'm in a film with guns - which is rare!" says Carey Mulligan of her role in the Danish director's crime thriller.
"Iwanted to do something that would be a bit of a stretch," adds the starof An Education and Never Let Me Go, "like playing a mother, andexploring a different genre."

Drive is now showing in theaters near you and at #3 (with $11M+) in its first weekend of release.

Many viewers will forever associate Jennifer Ehle with her career-making role as Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC’s Pride & Prejudice, the sumptuous adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Casting News: Kelly Reilly lands a female lead role in 'Flight' opposite Denzel Washington

Posted by Le

Deadline reports that Kelly Reilly is in negotiations for the lead female role in Robert Zemeckis Flight opposite Denzel Washington. Apparently, Ms. Reilly was in a shortlist of actresses in consideration for the role along with Olivia Wilde and Dominique McElligott for the female lead role Nicole Devlin this past weekend and Kelly got the part! Yay for Kelly! Interesting she's another P&P actress cast in another Paramount Pictures film as just recently Rosamund Pike got cast in a female lead in One Shot film (opposite Tom Cruise), which starts filming later this month.

Flight starts shooting in Atlanta (GA) this October for a possible 2012 release.

Here's an article via Deadline...

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount is negotiating with Kelly Reilly to play the female lead opposite Denzel Washington in Flight, the Robert Zemeckis-directed thriller. This is a real opportunity for the British actress, who scores a role that a lot of actresses wanted. The short list going into the weekend was Reilly, Olivia Wilde and Dominique McElligott. In the John Gatins-scripted drama, Reilly is negotiating to play Nicole Devlin, a drug addict who is at rock bottom when she meets Whip (Washington), a commercial airline pilot who heroically flies a damaged plane to safety, saving saving 98 lives on a flight carrying 106 people. That achievement comes under a cloud when an investigation ensues over whether or not he had been drinking. The pilot and the girl become friends as each tries to get their demons under control. Reilly, whose credits include Sherlock Holmes, its upcoming sequel and Pride & Prejudice, is repped by ICM and Troika in the UK.
Speaking of Kelly Reilly, she will be seen next in the sequel of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows reprising her Mary Morstan role opposite Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr., which will be in theaters December 16th! Her upcoming TV and film projects include Edwin Boyd co-starring with Scott Speedman, 1320, and a 4th season of Above Suspicion: Silent Scream (with co-star Cirian Hinds) following it's continued success on UK's ITV1.

Drive, J.Edgar, and Sherlock Holmes in EW's 25 'Fall Movies We Can't Wait to See' list

Posted by Le on Saturday, August 13, 2011

EW.com
has their annual Fall movies we can't wait to see and this year they have 25 films in their must-see list. Three of the 25 films (include films from our P&P actors) such as Drive (Carey Mulligan co-stars), J. Edgar (Judi Dench co-stars), and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (Kelly Reilly reprises her Mary Morstan role in this sequel).

Check out what EW has to say for Drive, J.Edgar, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows...

Drive

Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks

Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, R
In the high-octane noir Drive, Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver and gets entangled in a crime plot that goes awry. So it's only fitting that the journey to make the film began in a car. With Gosling and Refn behind the wheel, the nature of the film changed. ''Drive was originally a $60 million action movie Hugh Jackman was going to make,'' says Refn. (The stripped-down thriller earned him the Best Director prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.) ''It became a completely different movie out of this strange, mystical relationship between Ryan and me in that moment in the car'' after their first meeting. (Sept. 16)Josh Rottenberg

To find out what happened in the car to forge that bond between Gosling and Refn, pick up this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly.

J. Edgar

Starring
Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Not yet rated
As America's top cop for five decades, J. Edgar Hoover oversaw the creation of the FBI, helped popularize fingerprints and other forensic evidence, and wielded nearly unchecked authority to manipulate evidence and investigate supposed enemies of the state such as Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Now director Clint Eastwood is turning the tables, prying into Hoover's life in a big-screen biopic that would doubtless make the notorious G-man squirm.

The movie traces Hoover's life from his childhood in Washington, D.C., through his ascent to power in the 1920s, his 50-year reign over the FBI, and his death in 1972 — with Leonardo DiCaprio donning prosthetic makeup to portray the man well into his bulldog-like elderly years. ''To me, it's really a story of how absolute power corrupts absolutely,'' says the star. ''He was always an outsider.'' (Nov. 9)AB

For more on how the film addresses the speculation about Hoover's sexuality, pick up this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jared Harris, Noomi Rapace
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Not yet rated
Unlike 2009's Sherlock Holmes, which revolved around an occult conspiracy plot, the sequel delivers a more grounded adventure for Arthur Conan Doyle's famed detective, again played by Robert Downey Jr. ''We have left the supernatural behind, more or less,'' says Guy Ritchie, who returns to direct. This time, Holmes comes to the aid of a fortune-teller (Noomi Rapace) threatened by the malevolent math whiz Professor James Moriarty (Mad Men's Jared Harris). As always, Holmes is joined by his partner, the soon-to-wed Dr. Watson (Jude Law). Despite the impending nuptials, the heroes' bromance remains ''the driving force of the narrative,'' says Ritchie, and the film allows Downey to have continued fun with quips and disguises: ''Robert was quite keen on dressing up as a woman.'' (Dec. 16)JJ

Watch the trailer for 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Kelly Reilly

Posted by Le on Tuesday, July 12, 2011

The first trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Kelly Reilly, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Eddie Marsan, and Stephen Fry has just debuted on Entertainment Tonight and released online as well earlier tonight! Also, two teaser posters and Five New Pics from 'Sherlock Holmes 2' has been released by Warner Bros. Unfortunately, neither the teaser posters nor the production stills (released so far) has featured Kelly Reilly's returning character Mary Morstan, but she does appear briefly on the trailer in a wedding scene with Jude Law's Dr. Watson character (as well as the First Look: Kelly Reilly in 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' I previously posted here last February!), which I made a couple screen captures below!

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens in theaters nationwide December 16th!

The official synopsis for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:
Guy Ritchie helms a new action-packed adventure, following the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.), and his longtime trusted associate, Dr. Watson (Law), as they match wits with their arch-nemesis, the criminal genius Moriarty (Harris).”

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Trailer screen captures featuring Kelly Reilly

Also, more info from The Playlist...
This one picks up where the last one left off. Watson (Jude Law) is attempting to life a quiet married life, but of course Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. busts back into his life and keeps sucking him into his adventures. After surviving three murder attempts from the nefarious Moriarty, Holmes teams with Watson to finally capture the evildoer who heads up a criminal organization and the two take off across Europe to track him down. Loosely based on Arthur Conan Doyle‘s short story, “The Final Problem,” first published in 1893, the film then deviates from that plot and then makes room for Mycroft (Stephen Fry), Holmes’ brother, and the inclusion of the gypsy Sim played by Noomi Rapace

ITV has confirmed that it has commissioned a fourth series of crime drama Above Suspicion.

Kelly Reilly
and Ciaran Hinds will reprise their respective roles as DI Anna Travis and DCS James Langton in the new three-part drama.

The new series, adapted by Lynda La Plante from her novel Silent Scream, will focus on the brutal murder of a glamorous British film star.

"I'm thrilled to be making a fourth series of Above Suspicion for ITV, which will see Travis progress even further up the career ladder investigating one of her most challenging cases to date,"
said La Plante.

ITV Drama Commissioner Laure Mackie added: "Above Suspicion has grown into a really strong brand for ITV1 and the fourth installment, Silent Scream, is set to be another gripping story for Travis and Langton to investigate."

Casting News: Kelly Reilly joined Scott Speedman to star in a true-crime feature film, 'Edwin Boyd'

Posted by Le on Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Kelly Reilly was just recently cast in a new indie drama film based on a true story with Scott Speedman (who recently co-starred with Rosamund Pike and Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version):
Speedman and Reilly to star in bank robber love story Edwin Boyd

Principal photography begins February 17 on Edwin Boyd - about a Canadian war veteran turned bank robber — starring Barney’s Version actor Scott Speedman in the title role alongside BAFTA award-nominee Kelly Reilly as Boyd’s wife.

Edwin Boyd executive producer Kirk D’Amico, also president and CEO of Santa Monica-based Myriad Pictures, which holds international rights, told Screen: “I see this film as a classic bank robber movie with a great central character [Speedman], but it also has an epic love story — the relationship he has with his wife is just amazing. All the other stuff is great - from the bank robbery and breaking out of jail - but it’s the love story that gives it its heart.”

Budgeted at C$5 million, Edwin Boyd is based on a real WWII vet and family man turned bank robber. Disillusioned by his post war circumstances, Toronto’s Eddie Boyd is torn between the need to provide for his young family and an unfulfilled dream to head to Hollywood to become a star. He discovers a way to do both, robbing banks “Hollywood style,” but his dream leads him down a path of danger and tragedy. Read more!
Edwin Boyd is currently filming in Ontario, Canada. Kelly's not listed on the cast list yet on IMDB, but she's mentioned in all of the articles with the casting news. Also, check out 13 photos from the Edwin Boyd movie set including this cute on set pic of the two young actors who will be playing Kelly Reilly and Scott Speedman's kids in the film...aww! I don't know if this is Kelly on set, but we can only see the long red hair in this photo. Also, this pic looks Kelly hairwise, but doesn't in the mirror...could be her stunt double? You can read more about the real Edwin Boyd's story here and Kelly's character Dorreen Mary Frances Thompson, who was married to Edwin Boyd with three children.

First Look: Kelly Reilly in 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'

Posted by Le on Monday, February 21, 2011

Following my recent post here about Kelly Reilly returning and reprising her role in sequel to Sherlock Holmes 2, now a first photo has surfaced online of Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan, lady love of Jude Law's Dr. Watson character in the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster hit Sherlock Holmes. The sequel now has a title: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,in theaters December 16th!

Below you can see a teaser photo scan from an issue of Empire magazine. It shows Watson (Jude Law) getting ready to be hitched to a lovely lady, Mary Morstan played by Kelly Reilly, with Holmes off to the side. Check it out!

Robert Downey, Jr
. also gives a statement about the sequel, he says:

“It’s not going to be broader,” Downey Jr. warned Empire about the sequel and its tone. “That’s the usual thing they do. They say, ‘Hey, we were funny in that last movie.’ And then they go out and make some fucking ‘Lethal Weapon 9’ garbage. It’s got a mixture of things that a lot of films can’t get away with… it’s a big-budget period film, which are never made these days… there’s real serious menace to it… and we’re taking it further—these two guys can’t live with each other and can’t live without each other.”

Kelly Reilly returns and reprises her role in 'Sherlock Holmes 2'

Posted by Le on Monday, February 7, 2011

Finally, there's news and a confirmation whether or not Kelly Reilly and co-star Rachel McAdams are returning for the for Untitled Sherlock Holmes Sequel, which is currently still filming and is set for a December 16, 2011 theatrical release.

For a long time, there seems to be no actual news on the returning cast for the sequel from the first Sherlock Holmes film, which was a big blockbuster hit (with a $290+ million domestic gross, a $90 million budget, and over $524+ million worldwide gross, according to Box Officce Mojo) when it was released December 2009, other than the two male leads Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law with new cast members: Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), Stephen Fry, and Jared Harris. See on set pics of Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law return for Sherlock Holmes sequel. Though Kelly's name has been mentioned a lot and on the IMDB cast list for the sequel more so than McAdams since it was announced they were doing a sequel and which cast will be returning, but McAdams' return has been in question for a while, even the actress herself wasn't sure if she was returning or not.

With Rachel McAdams Spotted on the Set of Sherlock Holmes 2
recently though, looks like she is and Warner Bros. had to quickly confirmed her return as set photos of her and director Guy Ritchie leaked online. Now, it's official and confirmed that she's returning along with Kelly. They will be reprising their roles as Mary Morstan (Reilly) and Irene Idler (McAdams), in what is reported to be a cameo role.

Yay, for both Kelly and Rachel returning to SH2! So, glad they are returning as I love this two very talented actresses and I'm looking forward to seeing this film more now with them and with anticipation. Not too mentioned, I loved and enjoyed the first one. Let's hope Kelly has more screen time in this sequel than in the first and that this sequel is as fun and enjoyable to watch as the first one. I haven't seen any set photos or production stills with KR on it yet, but I'll be sure to post here as soon as they are released.

More info about the sequel surfaced with Kelly Reilly mentions including in the storyline...

Plot:  Set in 1891 — a year after the last film's events — the sequel shows Holmes continuing his pursuit of Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris), who, if the investigator's instincts are correct, might be the world's first supervillain. Watson, meanwhile, is still trying to be a good partner to his love, Mary Morstan (Kelly Reilly), while keeping Sherlock alive.
The new movie is once again directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch), and co-stars Noomi Rapace and Stephen Fry. It is scheduled to hit theaters on December 16th. Read more: Worst Previews

DVD News: Kelly Reilly's 'Above Suspicion' (Series 1 & 2) to be released on DVD early

Posted by Le on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Kelly Reilly's popular ITV crime drama series "Above Suspicion" (both series 1 & 2, which she co-stars with CiarĂ¡n Hinds aka Captain Wenthworth of 1995's Persuasion) will be released on DVD (see DVD cover to your left) by Acorn Media UK, who just recently announced that it will be released from their website exclusively before its general release in 2011.

Here's the press release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release)Oct 19, 2010 – Acorn Media UK has announced that both series of popular ITV crime drama Above Suspicion will be released on DVD from their website exclusively early before a general release in 2011.

Above Suspicion is a TV series based on Lynda La Plante's novels Above Suspicion and The Red Dahlia. It stars Kelly Reilly and Ciaran Hinds. It features the career of La Plante's latest heroine DC Anna Travis. The first series, Above Suspicion, was shown on the fourth and fifth of January 2009; the second series, Above Suspicion 2: The Red Dahlia, was shown on the fourth, fifth and sixth of January 2010.

In the first series of Lynda La Plantes gripping Above Suspicion, DC Anna Travis (Kelly Reilly) has been assigned to her first murder case. Under the watchful eye of DCI James Langton (Ciaran Hinds), she joins a team investigating a series of brutal and shocking murders.

They started eight years ago, and the body count - all prostitutes and drug users was up to six, but now a seventh body has been found. This time the victim is a beautiful, young student, with the murderer no less ugly in his slaughter. Is every victim innocent, or are some more innocent than others?

In Above Suspicion 2 The Red Dahlia DC Anna Travis (Kelly Reilly) is back, reunited with the inimitable DCI James Langton, to face her most challenging and terrifying case yet. When the body of a young woman is discovered, sadistically mutilated and drained of blood, it would seem an ominous re-enactment of the infamously unsolved murder from 1940’s Los Angeles, dubbed the Black Dahlia.

The first part attracted high audience figures of 6.8 million viewers. The Daily Telegraph called the show "Lynda La Plante's younger, sassier successor to Prime Suspect." Audience viewership figures increased to 7.3 million in the second and concluding instalment.

ITV have confirmed that "Above Suspicion" will return for a third serial, based on Lynda La Plante's Deadly Intent, with Kelly Reilly, Ciaran Hinds, Celyn Jones, Amanda Lawrence and Shaun Dingwall all reprising their respective roles. Ray Fearon, Robbie Gee and Andrew Woodall will also star.
